The Benefits of Physiotherapy

Whether you’ve been suffering from general aches and pains, or have a recent or persistent injury, it can be daunting to book your first physiotherapy appointment. You may be questioning whether this treatment is right for you, what it involves and, most importantly, whether it will actually work. That’s why it’s useful to know all of the benefits of physiotherapy so that you can make an informed decision.

Here at Pro-Active Physio Pilates, we understand all concerns you may have. That’s why we will first organise an initial consultation with you, where we will conduct a thorough assessment to find out the cause of your issue and the best course of action. Plus, unlike some other clinics, we can refer you for a scan or for you to see a consultant directly ourselves, without the need for a GP. We have fantastic contacts for each clinical area, should you need to be referred. Rest assured that our bespoke treatment plan will be entirely catered to you and your needs.

1. Physiotherapy can Reduce Pain

Damage to your soft tissue, bones or nerves may result in pain, stiffness, pins and needles, bruising, numbness, weakness or swelling. Our physiotherapists will work with you to identify and diagnose your issue. Knowing what caused the injury will help us to treat it and prevent it from coming back. That’s why we’re all about using a hands-on approach, in line with the best current research and evidence-based techniques. Focussing on solution-based treatment means that you won’t need to rely on our long-term input. Taking a pro-active approach gets to the root of the problem quickly and prevents it from coming back in the future.

We will create a bespoke treatment plan that targets the affected area. This may include taping of joints and injured tissues, joint and soft tissue mobilisation, acupuncture, Shockwave Therapy or sports-specific rehabilitation should you need this. Over time, after carrying out your plan, your pain will reduce and, in most cases, disappear completely.

As for chronic conditions such as arthritis, it’s worth noting that we cannot ‘fix’ the problem or make it completely go away. However, with our treatment, we can help to prevent the progression and stop it from getting any worse. This is inclusive of hands-on and exercise rehab treatments.

2. Physiotherapy can Improve Overall Strength and Balance

Stretching and strengthening your body by carrying out the exercises advised by your physiotherapist can help restore your overall mobility. For example, your physiotherapist may help you to retrain and recruit stabilising muscles to regain balance and stability in deep postural muscles of the body.

3. Physiotherapy can Help to Avoid Surgery

The key to this one is early intervention. If you have an injury such as a strain or sprain, most often caused by sport or athletic activities, having physiotherapy can prevent the need to have surgery further down the line. We will work with you to tackle the problem, reduce swelling and improve mobility before the injury turns into something worse, and even prevent it from recurring.
